SACRAMENTO, California (July 12, 2017) — A man was ejected from his burgundy pickup truck in a rollover crash Wednesday afternoon on the northbound State Route Highway 51 at the El Camino Ave West on ramp, a California Highway Patrol report said.
The crash took place about 4:06 p.m. with the pickup carrying three or four occupants. A witness told police the vehicle rolled at least three times. A good Samaritan saw the man in the roadway and blocked him with their silver Toyota 4Runner SUV so that he would not get run over by oncoming vehicles. The CHP report stated there was heavy damage to the pickup truck, particularly to the hood of the vehicle.
The crash was listed as a fatality, but does not provide details about how many people were killed, but at least one person was taken to UC Davis Medical Center.
The report seems to indicate a hit-and-run driver was involved. The suspect was last seen on the road that goes to the Hilton, a couple of streets down from El Camino Ave, the report stated. The vehicle was eventually location by police.
The crash remains under investigation by police to determine liability.
