Man, 62, Seriously Injured in Sacramento Hit-and-Run on Marconi and Interstate 80
SACRAMENTO, CA (July 9, 2021) – A DUI hit-and-run crash seriously injured a pedestrian on the the Interstate 80 at the Marconi Avenue exit in Sacramento.
The Sacramento Bee and FOX 40 News wrote that the accident took place on Thursday night. Officers reported the collision on July 8 at around 10:35 p.m.
The incident began when a Lexus slammed into a Ford van and a Toyota Camry in Sacramento. The Lexus then struck a male pedestrian at the Marconi Avenue exit off the eastbound Interstate 80.
The California Highway Patrol said the 62-year-old Sacramento man ended up left lying on the ground. He sustained a broken back and other serious injuries as a result of the crash.
Pedestrian Hit by Car
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and rushed the victim to a hospital for treatment. Officials did not disclose his name and condition at this time.
Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that the man driving the Lexus did not stop to help the wounded pedestrian. He fled the area with his 3-year-old son in the car.
Officers forced the Marconi Avenue exit near the Interstate 80 to shut down for a time following the collision. The Sacramento DUI hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
CHP soon located the driver and determined that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time. They arrested him on felony DUI, felony hit-and-run and misdemeanor child endangerment.
