Cal State Student Struck, Killed Riding E-bike
HAYWARD, Calif. (May 17, 2024) — A 22-year-old graduate student identified as Sai Ram Gollapalli died May 10th following a bicycle accident on Mission Boulevard and Carlos Bee Boulevard in Hayward.
The young man, an exchange student from India attending Cal State University East Bay, died two days after being struck by a motorist while riding his e-bike, according to CBS News.
Sai Ram Gollapalli was studying computer science at the university and living in Hayward.
A driver reportedly struck him at around 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8th, according to the report.
Authorities reported a 36-year-old Hayward man was driving the vehicle that struck the victim, but he stopped and is cooperating with the investigation.
The family of the victim has created a GoFundMe campaign to cover costs for his return to India.
