Major Injury Crash on Highway 86

IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (July 18, 2024) — A major injury crash in Salton City happened early Thursday on State Route Highway 86, just north of Tredwell Boulevard.

The California Highway Patrol reported one of two vehicles involved was totaled in the 3:34 a.m. collision on July 18th.

The vehicles included one similar to a Jeep SUV, but there were no further details.

Paramedics with the Imperial County Fire Department responded to help at least one person with major injuries and they requested a helicopter to fly the person to a hospital. A second person was treated for minor injuries.

Tow trucks removed the damaged vehicles from the scene and the road was cleared of debris.

Investigators are working to determine fault for the crash on Highway 86 in the Salton Sea area.
