SALTON SEA, California (September 9, 2015) — Emilio Rios, 65, was attacked and killed by in his front yard by two vicious dogs early Tuesday morning at Sea Gull and Dolphin drives in the unincorporated North Shore community, according to a press release by the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner.
A woman was also attacked by the pair of dogs and suffered major injuries. Police arriving at the scene saw the dogs attacking her and put on their lights and sirens which scared the dogs off of her and they fled. One was a black pit bull mix and the other a boxer mixed breed dog. They were found at a nearby residence and taken away by animal control officers who had to tranquilize one of them to avoid being attacked themselves, Riverside police said.
Paramedics transported the woman to a local hospital where she was treated for major injuries from the attack.
The two dogs were captured by Animal Control Officers, but the report did not indicate who they belonged to. Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department at 760-863-8990.
“My condolences go out to the family of this man as they cope with news of this terrible loss,” said Attorney James Johnson. “Hopefully this woman pulls through with a full recovery from her many injuries.”
