Tustin Hit-and-Run Collision at Nisson Road and Del Amo Avenue
ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. (Feb. 5, 2025) — An LAPD sergeant was arrested following the death of Salvador Gonzalez, 19, in a hit-and-run pedestrian crash Saturday at Nisson Road and Del Amo Avenue in Tustin.
The Los Angeles police sergeant, identified as Carlos Gonzalo Cornel, of Buena Park, was arrested Sunday after investigators determined his vehicle was involved in the deadly hit-and-run pedestrian accident.
The 19-year-old Santa Ana man was struck by a black 2021 Chevrolet Silverado crew cab pickup truck around 4 a.m. on Saturday at the intersection.
Investigators matched debris from the crash scene to the LAPD sergeant’s pickup truck, according to the Orange County Register.
The suspect reportedly was on probation from a 2011 DUI conviction. He plead no contest to the misdemeanor county of DUI on Sept. 24, 2011, the report said.
The police sergeant was sentenced to 129 hours of community service in that case, but failed to complete it and his probation was revoked on Dec. 26, 2012.
The case remains under investigation.
