Bicyclist Killed in Collision on Highway 1
San Mateo County, CA (July 22, 2022) – Police arrested 31-year-old Samantha Hartwell in relation with a deadly bicycle accident that occurred on Highway 1 on June 25, Saturday.
The Daily Journal News reported Hartwell was driving a vehicle traveling in the streets of Half Moon Bay area. Our sources indicated Hartwell was swerving along the highway due to her alleged intoxication. When the woman approached the area near Stage Road, she veered into oncoming traffic and collided with another car and a bicyclist.
According to the article published online, the force from the impact ejected the cyclist from his bike. The victim landed approximately 40 feet down an embankment on the east side of Highway 1. Responding paramedics sadly pronounced the cyclist dead at the scene.
DUI Suspected Arrested After Fatal Accident in San Mateo County
Meanwhile, investigators later determined Samantha Hartwell was drunk at the time of the horrible crash. For this reason, police charged the suspect with second-degree murder; vehicular manslaughter; and drunk driving causing injury.
Detectives handling the case continue to investigate several unclear factors surrounding the deadly accident that happened in Half Moon Bay.
