RIALTO, Calif. (January 30, 2023) – Samantha Klemm, 27, of Colton, has been arrested on hit-and-run charges for the death of pedestrian, Yolanda Vargas, 62, Thursday night on East Randall Avenue in Rialto.
The fatal crash occurred about 9:00 p.m. on Jan. 26th as the woman walked in the roadway, the Rialto Police Department said.
Yolanda Vargas was reportedly struck by a driver in a dark four-door sedan as it drove eastbound on Randall Avenue, according to a report by The Sun. The woman went down in the roadway and suffered major injuries. Meanwhile, the motorist involved fled without stopping to help the victim.
Paramedics responded and rushed the injured woman to a hospital, but sadly she died from her injuries.
The Rialto Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) received tips on the suspect and her were able to locate her and the vehicle they believe was involved.
Police arrested Samantha Klemm and she was booked into the West Valley Detention Center. She faces charges of CVC 20001(b)(2) – Hit and Run Causing Great Bodily Injury or Death and PC 12022.7(a) – Great Bodily Injury Bail Enhancement, according to the Rialto police press release. They set her bail at $1,000,000.
