Boy, 7, Killed in Ben Lomond Pedestrian Accident
BEN LOMOND, Calif. (Sept. 5, 2018) — Samuel Gomez Espinosa, 7, was struck and killed Monday by a driver while riding his Razor scooter in his family’s driveway on Newell Creek Road, according to the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
The collision took place on Labor Day about 2:40 p.m. A 44-year-old man in a 2018 Toyota 4Runner SUV struck the boy as he turned into the driveway of the gated community, just north of Rio Creek Road.
Paramedics responded to help the child, but sadly he died of his injuries at the scene. The child and his family recently came to the U.S. from Colombia and was a second grader at San Lorenzo Valley Elementary School.
A gofundme.com fundraiser has been established to help his parents Jose Gregorio Gomez Marquez and Andrea Espinosa Milano.
The 44-year-old driver, who was related to the child, was turning into the driveway north of Rio Creek Road — inside a gated neighborhood — shortly before 2:40 p.m., according to California Highway Patrol.
The child, who was born in Colombia, was riding a “Razor” scooter when he was hit and killed, officer Trista Drake said.
