SAN DIEGO, California (November 3, 2016) —Samuel Helpburn, 61, of Ocean Beach died Wednesday afternoon shortly after a collision with a silver sedan on the eastbound Interstate 8 Freeway, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office.
The collision took place about 10:45 a.m., just east of the Interstate 805 Freeway in Mission Valley.
Hepburn was driving his motorcycle eastbound on the Interstate 8 Freeway when a driver in the silver car allegedly crashed into his bike in the left lanes. The motorcycle caught on fire and was put out by responding firefighters.
Paramedics rushed the injured motorcycle rider to Sharp Memorial Hospital where he later died of his injuries at 12:44 p.m. the same day.
