Car Rear-ends Taxi Killing Passenger, Injuring Both Drivers
SAN BERNARDINO, California (August 11, 2015) — Cesar Figueroa, 41, of Highland was killed and two drivers were injured when the taxi he was riding in was rear-ended by a white 2002 GMC Yukon SUV at the intersection of Highland and Del Rosa avenues, a report by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Coroner said.
The crash was reported at 10 p.m. on August 7, 2015. Figueroa was seated in the back of the taxi which was stopped at a traffic light in the westbound lanes of Highland Avenue when the SUV slammed into the back of the taxi. The impact caused both vehicles to push into the intersection where the cab was hit again by a Honda Civic. The impact of the two collisions crushed the back of the white Twinz Cab Company car.
Taxi driver David Zuniga, 56, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to St. Bernadine’s Hospital and the driver of the Honda, Gloria Alva, 25, was treated for minor injuries. The man and woman who were in the SUV fled on foot.
“My condolences go out to the family of this man who died who I understand is a father of two girls,” said Attorney James Johnson. “I can’t imagine the pain they must be going through at this difficult time.”
The fatal crash is under investigation by the San Bernardino Police Department Accident Investigation Team. Please contact Detective Peck at (909) 384-5664 with any tips or information about the hit-and-run driver.
