SAN BERNARDINO, California (July 30, 2015) — Carlos Martinez-Fernandez, 35, of Highland was killed Wednesday afternoon when his SUV collided with a tow truck at the intersection of Waterman Avenue and 6th Street, according to a press release by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner.
The fatal crash was reported at 2:50 p.m. when Martinez-Fernandez was allegedly driving his Mercury Mountaineer northbound on Waterman Avenue and went through a red traffic light where he crashed into a tow truck that was heading westbound on Sixth Street. Martinez-Fernandez died of his injuries at the scene of the crash.
“This is a tragedy for the victim’s family as they cope with his sudden loss,” said Attorney James Johnson. “My condolences go out to them at this difficult time.”
The report did not indicate what happened to the tow truck driver, but he likely suffered some injuries in this crash.
The fatal crash come just two days after another one on Monday that claimed the lives of two 20-year-olds from Fontana whose Honda Civic swerved to avoid debris in the roadway and crashed head-on into a cement truck on Base Line between Meridian and University avenues. They were identified in the San Bernardino Sun as Deanna Venegas and Jesus Ramos.
