SAN BERNARDINO, California (August 10, 2015) — Thelma M. Lopez, 75, of San Bernardino was killed Sunday night in a traffic accident on Baseline Avenue, a San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner report said.
The fatal crash was reported at 9:10 p.m. when Lopez was riding as a passenger in a white 1992 Toyota Corolla in the eastbound lanes of Baseline Avenue. The driver was attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Fairfax Drive when the vehicle was hit on the passenger side of the car by a 2002 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck that was driving in the opposite direction westbound on Baseline Avenue.
Police believe the pickup truck was speeding at the time of the crash and are investigating the circumstances.
Paramedics took Lopez by ambulance to Loma Linda University Medical Center where she later died of her injuries.
The CHP is heading up an investigation into the tragedy and will report on their findings.
