Driver Suffers Major Injuries in Crash on 805 Freeway
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Jan. 2, 2019) – Four people were hospitalized including a man who suffered a severe head injury on New Year’s Day in a multi-vehicle wreck on the Interstate 805 Freeway in Sorrento Valley, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Police stated the crash took place about 2 p.m. on Tuesday, bringing traffic to a standstill.
Initially, the CHP believed the crash involved street racing and or drunk driving, but that was ruled out following their investigation.
The investigation has revealed that a silver Mercedes SUV struck a blue Nissan that was stalled or stopped in one of the northbound traffic lanes near the shoulder of the roadway. Two other vehicles were also somehow involved. Police were told by witnesses that the Nissan’s driver came to a sudden stop and then got out of the vehicle. The driver of the Nissan was hit while out of his vehicle and thrown roughly 135 feet onto the pavement. The report stated that the victim was possibly a member of the military, but that has not been confirmed.
The man and three others who were suffered minor injuries were all taken to hospitals for further treatment.
All motorists involved stopped and cooperated with the police investigation.
