SAN DIEGO, California (October 15, 2016) – According to an article by NY Daily News, four people were killed and nine others were injured after a vehicle plunged down from Coronado Bridge and landed in a crowded park Saturday afternoon.
Shortly after 3:30 p.m., an alleged drunk driver identified as veered off the bridge, struck a guardrail, and tumbled off. The involved vehicle, a pickup truck, ended landing on a vendor tent set up for a motorcycle festival some 60 feet below in Chicano Park.
The bizarre incident resulted in injuries of severity ranging from fatal to minor.
The deceased victims were identified as AnnaMarie Contreras, 50, and Cruz Elias Contreras, 52, a married couple of Chandler, Arizona. The other two victims were identified as Andre Christopher Banks, 49, and Francine Jimenez from Hacienda Heights.
Furthermore, officers affirmed the driver, who was the sole occupant in the pickup, survived the crash and was listed in critical condition at a hospital. The pickup driver will be arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and causing deaths and injuries. An article by SGV Tribune identified the pickup driver as 25-year-old Richard Anthony Sepolio, a member of the U.S. Navy.
