3-Vehicle Crash on I-5 Freeway, Clairemont Drive in Bay Park
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Jan. 7, 2019) — A fatal collision involving three motorists was reported Sunday morning on the northbound Interstate 5 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported during a downpour about 6 a.m. in the Bay Park community, just before Clairemont Drive.
A pickup truck was allegedly traveling at high speeds prior to colliding into the center divider and being struck by two other vehicles. The report stated that the pickup truck driver had gotten out of his vehicle and was struck by at least one of the other two vehicles.
The driver was 48-year-old Joseph Vito Berardino, according to the medical examiner.
It’s unknown how many others were hurt in the crash.
The collision remains under investigation to determine fault.
