1 Killed, 3 Injured in San Diego Rollover Crash on 8 Freeway
SAN DIEGO (May 17, 2018) – A fatal alleged hit-and-run crash took place along the Interstate 8 Freeway Thursday afternoon, according to San Diego Union-Tribune and NBC San Diego.
The accident was reported shortly after 1:30 p.m. at Waring Road.
As per the reports, California Highway Patrol said a 2001 Toyota Avalon was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed east on the 8 Freeway when the car approached slower traffic.
The Avalon then clipped the back of a 2017 Toyota Prius and went up the center embankment before hitting several trees. The car rolled back into traffic lanes, and came to a stop perpendicular in the freeway.
Man, 20, Arrested For Hit-and-Run
The man riding as a left rear passenger in the Toyota died at the scene. The other occupant in back seat was taken to the hospital to be treated for major injuries.
The front-seat passenger was also hospitalized with minor wounds. The names of the deceased and injured victims have not been yet released.
Meanwhile CHP affirmed that the driver of the Avalan fled on foot into a nearby ravine but was later located near Mission Gorge Road off-ramp. The suspect, a 20-year-old man, was taken into custody.
The incident remains under investigation.
