2 Killed in San Diego Pedestrian Crash on Harbor Drive Near Nimitz Boulevard
SAN DIEGO, CA (January 19, 2022) – A pedestrian crash killed a man and a woman on Harbor Drive in San Diego.
According to The San Diego Union-Tribune and ABC 10 News, the tragic accident took place on Wednesday evening. Officers reported the collision at around 6:05 p.m.
The pedestrian incident happened when a vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed west on North Harbor Drive in San Diego. At the same time, the victims were walking across a street.
Police said the speeding driver then struck the two people in the 5000 block of the road, west of Nimitz Boulevard. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived between Liberty Station and Point Loma.
Speeding Driver Hits Man and Woman
They found the victims, a man and woman in their 50s or 60s, lying unresponsive on the ground. The pedestrians sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel pronounced them dead at the scene. The names of the deceased victims have not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the a man in his late 30s or early 40s driving the car stopped and stayed at the site. Officers forced a stretch of Harbor Drive to shut down for a time following the crash.
