Pedestrian Struck, Killed on San Diego Freeway
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (August 1, 2024) — A driver struck and killed a pedestrian early Thursday on the southbound Interstate 5 Freeway, just north of Dairy Mart Road in San Diego.
The deadly collision happened at around 3:59 a.m. on August 1st, according to the California Highway Patrol dispatch.
CHP officials report they shut down the Nos. 2, 3 and 4 lanes of the freeway due to the crash.
The driver of a white Ford Fusion sedan reportedly hit a person and then pulled over to the right shoulder near Daily Mart.
Paramedics responded to the scene and confirmed the victim’s death, but there are no further details about the person at this time.
Meanwhile, a tow truck removed the vehicle for evidence and police issued a SigAlert due to the crash and subsequent investigation.
The report mentioned a hit-and-run driver was also involved in the crash and it’s unclear how many vehicles struck the pedestrian.
The case remains under investigation.
