SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Jan. 13, 2023) — A fatal San Diego pedestrian accident happened Thursday night on the Interstate 5 Freeway at Sampson Street.
The collision occurred about 10:43 p.m. on Jan. 13th in the Logan Heights area, according to the California Highway Patrol and San Diego News 10
A driver in a gray Lexus SUV struck the man after he walked across the northbound lanes of the I-5 Freeway, the report said. Also, several other motorists struck the victim in the roadway.
Meanwhile, the 55-year-old San Diego man behind the wheel in the Lexus stopped and cooperated with the police investigation. Authorities closed down multiple traffic lanes for roughly two hours in an effort to find out what led up to the pedestrian accident on the 5 Freeway.
Police do not suspect drugs or alcohol are a factor in the crash for the motorist, but toxicology tests were not released for the victim.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the victim’s identity.
