1 Dead, 1 Injured in Fiery Wrong-way Car AccidentSAN DIEGO, California (July 10, 2017) — A deadly crash between a wrong-way driver and a tow truck was reported early Saturday morning on the southbound Interstate 5 Freeway.
The violent crash took place just after midnight when a driver traveling southbound in the northbound lanes crashed into the truck about 100 yards from the Main Street exit. One of the vehicles was completely demolished in the collision.
The California Highway Patrol responded with paramedics to the crash where both vehicles had burst into flames upon impact.
The tow truck driver survived with major burns and was taken by ambulance to a hospital. The wrong-way driver died instantly in the collision.
An investigation into the tragedy is underway to determine if drugs and or alcohol were factors.
