SAN DIEGO, Calif. (July 16, 2018) — A man driving a black Honda Odyssey minivan reportedly drove through a barricaded street at 6th Avenue and Laurel Street and crashed into a parked vehicle, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
The crash took place about 10:24 p.m. in the Balboa Park community. The motorist was reportedly traveling northbound on 6th Avenue and disregarded a uniformed traffic control officer and drove through the barricade. He drove through multiple streets and eventually turned westbound on Washington Street where he struck a parked vehicle. A 29-year-old pregnant woman inside the vehicle was hurt.
The driver sped off without stopping to check on the woman. A police pursuit ensued on several freeways before the suspect exited onto Lemon Avenue and was chased through the city of La Mesa. The vehicle eventually collided with a San Diego Police Department K9 Unit and stopped in a parking lot at the La Mesa Arts Academy. The man managed to get away and police are searching for a white man in his 30s with close-cut hair and a dark shirt.
