Speeding Car Causes Crash on I-15 Freeway in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (July 3, 2024) — A major-injury crash happened Wednesday afternoon on the southbound Interstate 15 Freeway near Rancho Penasquitos Boulevard in San Diego.
The two-vehicle collision occurred at around 12:05 p.m. on July 3rd, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported a driver in a Ford Fusion was allegedly speeding at “over 100 mph” before it collided with another motorist. Several vehicles including a pickup truck hauling a fifth wheel trailer were blocking traffic lanes and the center divider. It’s unknown which vehicle the Fusion struck when it crashed.
Paramedics responded to transport at least one person with major injuries to a hospital, but there are no further details.
Police issued at SigAlert due to multiple lanes being blocked by the vehicles and emergency responder vehicles. Tow trucks removed the vehicles including one with a “smashed windshield,” the report said.
The traffic accident on the Interstate 15 Freeway at Rancho Penasquitos Boulevard remains under investigation.
