SAN DIEGO, California (December 15, 2016) — A 27-year-old man suffered head injuries Wednesday night when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver in the 5000 block of El Cajon Boulevard in the Colina Del Sol neighborhood, according to the San Diego Police Department.
The pedestrian crash took place about 8:24 p.m. last night. The victim was attempting to cross El Cajon Boulevard in a northbound direction towards 50th Street outside a crosswalk when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle. The driver of the car was heading westbound in the No. 1 lane on El Cajon Boulevard when she hit the man. The woman didn’t stop and continued driving westbound on El Cajon Boulevard. She turned right onto Winona Avenue where she hit two parked vehicles. The vehicle became disabled and she walked away, but was caught by police and arrested on hit-and-run charges.
NBC San Diego identified the suspect as 44-year-old Joy Wehde.
The victim was rushed to Mercy Hospital where he is being treated for multiple head injuries, but is expected to survive.
The San Diego Police Department’s Traffic Division Detectives are heading up the investigation. They do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved.
