Rider Hospitalized After Hit-and-Run Collision Near SR-54
San Diego, CA (March 9, 2023) – One person suffered injuries following a suspected hit-and-run crash that occurred on Interstate 5, also known as San Diego Freeway, in Sweetwater River.
Auto vs. Motorcycle Crash on Interstate 5 in San Diego
The California Highway Patrol group reported a man riding a motorcycle was struck by a silver sedan in the northbound side of the freeway near State Route 54. Officials mentioned the driver of the sedan crossed over three lanes, then exited the freeway. In the process, the car hit the motorcyclist.
Due to the force from the impact, the rider was pushed towards the right-hand shoulder of I-5. Emergency crews arrived at the scene shortly after 7:43 a.m. and immediately rendered aid to the injured motorcyclist. According to the CHP dispatch, paramedics decided to transfer the victim to the hospital for further treatment. Personal information on the patient remained undisclosed pending confirmation.
Authorities said the driver of the sedan fled the scene without exchanging information with the victim. At this time, detectives continue to gather details that will help identify and locate the hit-and-run suspect.
