Man Hit by Car on Rosecrans Street in the Roseville/Fleetridge Neighborhood
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Oct. 2, 2019) — A 60-year-old man was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon when he was struck by a motorist while crossing Rosecrans Street.
The traffic accident was reported at 5:27 p.m. at Laning Road, according to the San Diego Police Department. Police say the pedestrian was on the southwest coroner of 1900 Rosecrans Street crossing eastbound in a crosswalk. A 55-year-old man driving a 2019 Ford Fusion was heading southbound on Laning Road. The driver had a green light and the pedestrian had the cross signal to go, but when they both proceeded the man was struck by the vehicle.
The pedestrian was taken by ambulance to a hospital with a serious, life-threatening head injury.
Police do not suspect the driver was DUI, but an investigation by the San Diego Police Department is underway to determine fault.
Under California law, motorists are required to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians in the roadway and it appears that the man had the green light to proceed with the driver struck him. It’s unknown at this time if there were any witnesses to this collision.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the injured man in hopes of a full recovery.
