Wrong-way Driver Struck by Cars on I-8 Freeway in Grantville
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Dec. 20, 2019) — A wrong-way driver was struck and killed Thursday night after getting out of his crashed pickup truck on the Interstate 8 Freeway in Grantville.
The driver had been traveling southbound on the Interstate 805 Freeway when he exited onto the I-8 Freeway and entered the westbound side traveling eastbound. He continued driving the wrong way on the I-8 Freeway until he crashed the vehicle, stepped out and was struck by two vehicles, according to the California Highway Patrol.
There were no others hurt in the collision that involved a total of four vehicles, police said.
The CHP was contacted by the driver in the Acura who called them at 11:30 p.m. to report that their car had been clipped by the wrong-way driver.
