San Diego Police Officer Injured in DUI Crash on Friars Road
SAN DIEGO, CA (September 5, 2022) – A San Diego police officer was hospitalized after a DUI crash on Friars Road near the Interstate 15.
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune and FOX 5 News, the accident took place early Monday. Officials reported the wreck at about 12:50 a.m. near the Serra Mesa and Mission Valley areas.
The incident began when the San Diego police officer was outside of his unit inspecting an abandoned vehicle on westbound Friars Road.
A 2013 Range Rover approached and then slammed into the back of the patrol vehicle near the Interstate 15. The officer ended up hit by the B pillar of the car.
Drunk Driver Hits Patrol Car
The reports added that the Range Rover continued and struck another vehicle nearby. Paramedics arrived at the scene and found the officer unconscious.
The victim sustained a laceration and other minor injuries as a result of the collision. Medical personnel then rushed the patient to hospital for treatment.
The report did not disclose the name of the wounded party and their condition at this time. Meanwhile, officers determined that the 47-year-old woman driving the Rover was under the influence of alcohol.
They soon arrested her on suspicion of felony DUI charges. Police forced a stretch of Friars Road to shut down following the wreck.
The San Diego DUI crash is still under investigation.
