SAN DIEGO, California (February 17, 2017) – A fatal traffic collision took place on the Interstate 15 Freeway Friday, according to California Highway Patrol dispatch team.
The accident occurred at approximately 5:15 p.m. on the southbound 15 Freeway, north of Mira Mesa Boulevard.
In an article by UT San Diego, CHP said the driver of a Honda Accord lost control and hydroplaned across the southbound lanes. The Honda then collided with three other vehicles.
The other cars involved were described as a Geo/Chevrolet Prizm, Toyota Tacoma and Toyota Sienna.
CHP indicated that a total of three people were transported to hospitals with unspecified injuries. One of the victims later died.
The deceased was identified as 68-year-old San Diego resident Rogelio Colchero who was a passenger in the Prizm at the time.
It was believed that the deadly wreck occurred on rain-slicked portion of the freeway. The driver who caused the wreck was suspected of driving too fast in the rain.
