SAN DIEGO (December 19, 2016)- According to the San Diego Coroner, a deadly crash caused by a DUI driver resulted in the death of a woman identified as Sarita Shakya, 38, of San Diego, Sunday morning.
The crash occurred on Camino Del Norte at precisely 12:12 a.m. when a 34-year-old driver driving a Toyota minivan had been traveling on the wrong side of the road headed eastbound in westbound lanes.
The minivan driver collided head-on with Shakya, the driver of a Toyota Corolla instantly causing fatal injuries to the 38-year-old woman.
The driver of the minivan who had not been identified by name was seriously injured and rushed to a trauma center and remains in serious condition.
It was determined by San Diego police officials that the driver was clearly impaired and under the influence and at the time of the crash.
The suspect is looking at charges including vehicular manslaughter at this time.
