2 Scooter Riders Injured in Traffic Collision on Market Street Near 13th Street Monday
San Diego, CA (July 5, 2021) – Two people suffered injuries following a suspected hit-and-run crash on Market Street in East Village Monday morning.
The San Diego Union-Tribune reported the two victims were riding a Bird scooter traveling in the streets of San Diego. When the motorcyclists approached the area of Market Street near 13th Street, they collided with a white Ford Explorer. Officials determined the riders were head east on Market, while the Ford made a turn south onto 13th. The two motorists drove into the East Village intersection at the same time, leading to the collision.

Authorities confirmed the driver of the Ford fled the scene. No immediate information was available on the hit-and-run suspect.
Meanwhile, the two scooter riders sustained injuries following the incident. Medical personnel arrived at the site shortly after 4 a.m. and rendered aid to the victims. Due to the condition of the two patients, ambulances transferred them to UC San Diego Health for treatment.
The San Diego Police Department’s Traffic Division is the agency handling the investigation. Detectives continue to work at this time to determine several factors surrounding the hit-and-run crash on Market Street in East Village.
