3 Elderly Injured in Midway District Crash at Rosecrans and Sports Arena

SAN DIEGO (July 28, 2018) – Three were hospitalized after an alleged wrong-way crash in the area of Rosecrans Street and Sports Arena Boulevard Saturday, according to CBS 8 and NBC San Diego.

The accident involving two vehicles occurred at about 9:40 a.m. in the Midway District neighborhood.

As per the reports, San Diego police said a 90-year-old man was driving a 2004 Toyota Camry south on Rosecrans Street when for an unknown reason he swerved into the northbound lanes.

The Toyota then struck a 2011 Hyundai Sonata carrying two elderly occupants.

San Diego Fire-Rescue officials along with the paramedics responded to the scene and attended to the all three parties who were hurt as a result of the crash. The 84-year-old man operating the Hyundai suffered a laceration to his head while her passenger, an 85-year-old woman, sustained a ruptured spleen.

The driver of the Camry survived with a hip fracture. All three were transported to the hospital for treatment. Their names and condition at this time were not disclosed.

Meanwhile, the intersection was forced to be closed as authorities conducted their investigation.

In this case, there are several questions that need to be resolved in order to determine the liability in the crash. Was the driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs a factor? Did excessive speed or distracted driving play a role? Why did the driver of the Toyota Camry veer into the opposite lane? Was that elderly motorist reckless or negligent at some point?

Once the investigation is over and it proves that a negligent party has caused the wreck and disregarded the safety of other people on the road, the injured and held not responsible for the collision may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit seeking compensation for all the hospital bills, future medical needs, lost income, and pain and suffering.
