2 Men Injured in Electrical Accident at Irwindale Speedway
LOCATION: San Gabriel Valley
DATE OF ACCIDENT: Saturday, September 8th
September 9, 2018 – Two people received electrical shocks at the Event Center, commonly known as the Irwindale Speedway, on 500 Speedway Drive, according to KTLA News.
The accident happened on Saturday at approximately 2:30 p.m.
Primary reports indicated two crew members with the Irwindale Speedway were electrocuted while working with a race-car driver ahead of the evening event. Authorities said the current theory from investigators is that the older man attempted to squeeze through a narrow path between a car transport trailer and chain-link fence. When the man touched both the trailer and the fence, he apparently suffered an electrical shock.
Then, a younger man ran over to help the older crew, attempting to pull him away from the trailer. Upon touching the male party, the younger man also received an electrical shock. Police suspect faulty wiring in the area was a factor in the traumatic incident.
Medical personnel at the scene rushed both victims to Methodist Hospital of Southern California in Arcadia, where they were listed in critical conditions. The patients were briefly described as one man his 30s, and the other in his 40s.
Further investigation on the case is underway.
