SAN GREGORIO, California (June 22, 2017) — At least one person has died in a collision between a green and white dump truck and a blue green Toyota Sienna minian on the State Route 1 Cabrillo Highway, near Pomponio State Beach, a California Highway Patrol report said.
The crash took place about 4:12 p.m. this afternoon in San Mateo County. The vehicles were blocking the southbound and northbound lanes. One person was confirmed dead at the scene and a helicopter was brought in to transport at least one other person who was seriously injured. The number of dead and injured was not disclosed in the report.
The dump truck, which was about half full and hauling about 50,000 pounds, was towed from the scene along with the van for evidence. A full investigation is underway to determine fault. Police will piece together evidence at the scene, witness statements and interviews with those involved to find out what led to the crash.
