California Highway Patrol officials within the San Jacinto division responded to the collision which occurred at 5:05 p.m.
Paramedics were dispatched to the scene along with the Riverside County Fire Department to attend the crash victims.
Humberto Avila Olvera, 55, of Cathedral City, was pronounced deceased at the scene at precisely 5:17 p.m.
One other driver sustained injuries said to have been minor, the article added.
No details have been released regarding the cause of the collision as CHP-San Jacinto investigates.
