Pedestrian, 8, Killed in San Jose School Crash at Castlemont and Driftwood
SAN JOSE, CA (September 16, 2022) – A pedestrian crash killed a boy at Castlemont Avenue and Driftwood Drive near a San Jose school.
According to the CBS San Francisco and NBC Bay Area, the tragic accident took place on Friday morning. Officers reported the collision at about 8:05 a.m.
The incident happened when a 8-year-old boy was crossing near the Castlemont Elementary School with a 44-year-old woman. San Jose police said the two were walking in a pedestrian crosswalk.
At the same time, a 2022 Mercedes Crossover was going south on Castlemont Avenue. Its female driver then made a left turn to go eastbound onto Driftwood Drive.
Car Hits Child and Woman in Crosswalk
In the process, the car struck the victims in the intersection. The child sustained life-threatening injuries while the adult ended up with moderate injuries.
Paramedics rushed both patients to a hospital, where the boy soon died. The report did not disclose the name of the wounded patient and her condition at this time.
Meanwhile, police added that the motorist stopped and stayed at the scene following the incident. Officers forced Castlemont Avenue to shut down near the school following the pedestrian accident.
The cause of the fatal San Jose crash is still under investigation.
