Woman in Wheelchair Killed in San Jose Fatal Hit-and-Run at Monterey and Curtner
SAN JOSE, CA (April 2, 2021) – A hit-and-run crash killed a woman in a wheelchair at Monterey Highway and Curtner Road in San Jose.
According to The Mercury News and NBC Bay Area, the tragic accident occurred late Thursday night. Officers reported the collision on April 1 at about 11:35 p.m.
The incident happened when the woman in her wheelchair was crossing the intersection of Monterey Highway and Curtner Road in San Jose.
Police said for an unknown reason, a vehicle going southbound struck her. The driver hit the victim near the Plant shopping center, Oak Hill memorial park and county fairgrounds.
Driver Hits Victim in Crosswalk, Flees Scene
Firefighters along with the paramedics soon responded to the scene. They found her and the wheelchair left lying on the ground as a result of the accident.
Medical personnel then rushed the woman to a local hospital where she died. Her name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the motorist did not stop to render aid and fled the area. They described the car involved as a white 2004-2010 Mercedes CLS coupe.
The Mercedes sustained visible damage to the front and left side upon impact. Authorities are still searching for the hit-and-run suspect.
Officials shut down the intersection of Monterey and Curtner following the San Jose crash. Anyone with information can call the police at 408-277-4654.
