1 Killed, 2 Injured in San Jose Fatal Wrong-Way Crash on Interstate 680 Near Berryessa
SAN JOSE, CA (October 24, 2021) – A wrong-way crash killed one person and injured two others on the Interstate 680 near Berryessa Road in San Jose.
According to the KRON 4 News and KTVU News, the tragic accident took place on Sunday morning. Officers reported the wreck shortly after 5 a.m.
The incident began when a Nissan sedan was traveling north on the southbound Interstate 680 in San Jose. In the process, the Nissan slammed into an oncoming car head-on.
Multiple Vehicles Collide
The California Highway Patrol said the second vehicle then collided with a third vehicle near Berryessa Road. The 50-year-old San Jose woman driving the wrong-way died at the scene.
An occupant of the second car sustained major injuries as a result of the collision. Medical personnel rushed the patient to a hospital for treatment.
A person riding the third vehicle survived with minor injuries. The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released.
Meanwhile, police forced the southbound lanes of the Interstate 680 to shut down for more than two hours following the wreck. The fatal San Jose wrong-way crash is still under investigation.
