Authorities were notified of the collision at roughly 3:30 a.m. as a 23-year-old woman driving a Volkswagen Golf traveling northbound within the southbound lanes of I-280 triggering a major collision.
Inside the opposing vehicle was a 23-year-old Livermore woman inside a Chevy Aveo. The Aveo then careened into a BMW driven by a 29-yaer-old San Jose man.
The wreck incurred serious injuries to two motorists and moderate injuries to a third driver who was all rushed to trauma centers for their injuries. It was confirmed by police officials that one of the drivers sustained a broken leg.
A photo posted by KTVU News showed a red sedan completely mangled being towed away from the scene.
Although it has not been confirmed at this time, police officials believe the driver of the Volkswagen was likely under the influence at the time of the collision.
