Deadly Crash on Ortega Highway Near Caspers
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. (Feb. 2, 2024) — A fatal San Juan Capistrano crash happened Friday morning on eastbound Ortega Highway 74, just east of Caspers Wilderness Park.
The two-vehicle collision occurred at around 10:50 a.m. on Feb. 2nd, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The drivers of a white Jeep Patriot and a silver sedan were involved, but it’s unknown what led up to the traffic accident.
The vehicles were blocking both lanes of State Route 74 and debris was scattered across traffic lanes, the report said. Police requested a hard closure for the highway and issued a SigAlert.
Meanwhile, paramedics responded and confirmed at least one person dead at the scene, but it’s unknown if others were injured.
Investigators are working on the case to determine fault for the crash on Ortega Highway 74.
