Car Loses Tire Prior to Fatal San Leandro Crash
SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (April 29, 2019) — Reuben Castro, 32, of Castro Valley, has been identified as the driver who died in a solo-vehicle crash on the southbound Interstate 880.
The crash took place about 7:11 a.m. when the vehicle lost a tire and crashed into a wall on the right shoulder of the freeway, just north of Davis Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The report does not state how many people were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. It’s unknown what led to the vehicle losing its tire, but this will likely be part of the police investigation into liability.
Police issued a SigAlert due to the No. 5 lane being blocked by the collision and responding police and fire personnel.
