Police arrested the 26-year-old driver of a white 2005 GMC Yukon XL following the crash, according to the San Luis Obispo California Highway Patrol. The report stated that the Arroyo Grande woman driving the Yukon was driving recklessly around 6 p.m. as she headed north on Highway 227. She reportedly rammed into one car, causing it to spin out of control and kept driving.
She continued driving northbound on Highway 227. Eventually, the woman crashed into a 2013 Honda SUV driven by the 72-year-old man. The man had been driving southbound on Carpenter Canyon Road when he was struck by the Yukon. The man driving the Honda died at the scene.
One of the vehicles had two injured dogs, but it’s unknown at this time who they belonged to. A Good Samaritan offered to take them to a veterinarian.
Police say the woman had an 18-month-old girl in her vehicle and both were taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center with minor to moderate injuries. The woman was subsequently arrested, but it’s unknown at this time what the charges are.
The crash remains under investigation by police to determine fault.
