Man, 51, Killed in Car Accident on SR-78 Tuesday
San Marcos, CA (April 13, 2021) – One person died following a car crash on State Route 78 Tuesday, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
Officials said the 51-year-old man was driving a Dodge Charger traveling west on SR-78. When the vehicle approached the area near Woodland Parkway, the driver allowed the Dodge to veer off the highway.
According to the news article published online, the Dodge eventually crashed into a Chevrolet Express van waiting at a light on the entrance ramp from Rancheros Drive. The force from the impact caused the Dodge to become airborne.
Rescue teams arrived at the location shortly after 5 p.m. and found the Dodge flipped on its roof in the parking lot of a nearby business. Authorities added the Dodge hit two trees and a chain-link fence during the collision.
Responding paramedics sadly pronounced the 51-year-old man driving the Dodge dead at the scene. Pending confirmation and notification of next of kin, the identity of the deceased remained undisclosed.
Meanwhile, the 45-year-old man driving the Chevrolet van appeared unharmed after the wreck.
Investigators handling the case continue to work to determine the precise cause of the car crash in San Marcos.
