2 Seriously Injured in San Marcos Hit-and-Run Crash on State Route 78 Near Nordahl
SAN MARCOS, CA (March 4, 2022) – A hit-and-run crash seriously injured two people on State Route 78 near Nordahl Road in San Marcos.
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune and FOX 5 News, the accident took place on Thursday night. Officers reported the wreck at about 8:50 p.m.
The incident happened on February 3 when a red Toyota Yaris was driving in the fast lane of eastbound State Route 78 in San Marcos.
For an unknown reason, a blue Honda Civic traveling in the same direction veered to the left. In the process, the Honda slammed into the Toyota east of Nordahl Road.
2 Cars Collide
The California Highway Patrol said the Yaris then rolled over and landed on its roof. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and found the two occupants of the overturned car hurt.
The 38-year-old woman driving the Toyota sustained major injuries. Her passenger, a 16-year-old girl, ended up with moderate injuries as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel rushed the two Valley Center residents to a hospital for treatment. The reports did not release the names of the wounded victims and their condition at this time.
Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that the driver of the Civic abandoned his car and fled the area. They soon located and arrested him for felony hit-and-run.
Officers forced the eastbound eastbound State Route 78 to shut down following the wreck. The cause of the San Marcos hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
