
Laura Yazmin Martinez Killed in Pedestrian Accident
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (April 4, 2023) — Laura Yazmin Martinez, 35, of Ysidro, died in a San Ysidro pedestrian accident on Smythe Avenue near Avenida de la Madrid.
The collision occurred around 9:15 p.m. on Monday, April 3rd, according to a San Diego Union Tribune article.
A 21-year-old driver in a 2006 BMW X3 reportedly struck the woman in the fast lane of Smythe Avenue. She was walking in a marked crosswalk at the time of the pedestrian collision.
Paramedics responded and rushed her by ambulance to a hospital where she was listed in critical condition with a brain bleed. She died the next day at 4:44 a.m. on April 4th, the San Diego Medical Examiner said.
Meanwhile, authorities evaluated the motorist and allege he was driving under the influence of marijuana at the time of the crash. Police arrested the driver on suspicion of DUI.
Investigators are working on the case and will determine fault for the pedestrian accident on Smythe Avenue.
