Sandra Gastelum, 24, Seriously Injured in Cuesta Grade Crash on Highway 101
SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA (April 4, 2022) – A fatal car crash on Highway 101 along the Cuesta Grade left Sandra Gastelum seriously injured.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 24-year-old Santa Maria woman as the victim of the wreck which took place on Sunday.
The incident happened when Sandra Gastelum was driving a 2019 Ford Fusion north on Highway 101, along the Cuesta Grade. At the same time, a 2003 Nissan 350Z was going south.
2 Cars Collide Head-On
For an unknown reason, the Nissan spun out of control. In the process, the car crossed into the northbound lanes and collided with the Ford.
CHP said the two vehicles crashed near Vista De La Ciudad, north of San Luis Obispo. The Lompoc Record and The Tribune wrote that the accident occurred on April 3 at about 9:43 a.m.
Sandra Gastelum and a passenger in the Nissan, 19-year-old Kenneth Rocha, sustained major injuries as a result of the crash. Paramedics rushed them to the hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Nissan, 18-year-old Lemoore resident Justin Rodrigues, died following the wreck. The cause of the Cuesta Grade crash is still under investigation.
