Sandra Stokes, 47, ID’d as Victim Killed in Crash
POMONA, Calif. (Nov. 28, 2017) — Sandra Stokes, 47, was struck and killed Monday night in a car accident at Mission Boulevard and Rebecca Street, according to the Pomona Police Department.
The fatal pedestrian accident was reported about 7:11 p.m. last night. The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to help the injured woman, but she died of her injuries at the scene.
The Pomona Police Department is heading up the investigation into the crash to determine liability. The police report stated that the driver who struck the woman was cooperating with the investigation.
Whenever there is an accident involving a pedestrian, police will attempt to piece together evidence and witness statements to determine fault. It appears this collision took place at an unmarked crosswalk. A pedestrian typically has the right-of-way, regardless of whether or not there is a marked crosswalk. Since this collision took place at night when it is dark, it may have been difficult for the motorist to see the woman and since they remained at the scene and were cooperative, they are unlikely to face criminal charges. A civil claim may still be filed against the driver by the surviving family members.
