Sandy Mendoza Killed in DUI Crash Highway 180, Shasta Ave in Fresno County

Woman Killed in Crash with Alleged DUI Driver is ID’d

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (Sept. 19, 2022) — Sandy Mendoza, 20, of Mendota, died in a Highway 180 crash involving a suspected DUI driver near Shasta Avenue in Kerman, Fresno County.

Antonio Orosco, 27, of Fresno, was arrested on suspicion of DUI following the collision, according to the Fresno Sheriff’s Department.

The collision occurred about 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17th, according to the Fresno Area California Highway Patrol (CHP) Communications Center.

Police say that Antonio Orosco was driving westbound on State Route 180 in a Honda sedan, just east of Shasta Avenue. Meanwhile, Sandy Mendoza was driving an Acura sedan eastbound on SR-180.

The Honda driven by Orosco reportedly veered to the left and crossed over into opposing traffic where it collided head-on with the Acura.

Both vehicles suffered major damage in the crash, leaving the two drivers and four passengers from the Acura with major injuries.

Sandy Mendoza died at the scene. However, paramedics transported passengers from her vehicle to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment of moderate to major injuries.

Police Arrested Suspected DUI Driver Antonio Orosco

Antonio Orosco also had major injuries and paramedics took him to the same hospital.

Authorities placed him under arrest on suspicion of drug impairment and vehicular manslaughter.

Police will book him into the Fresno County Jail after he is released from the hospital.
