Girl, 12, Critically Injured; Hit-and-run Driver Sought
SANTA ANA, Calif. (Oct. 18, 2023) — A 12-year-old girl was critically injured in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident at Newhope Street and McFadden Avenue in Santa Ana.
The child was walking to school at around 8 a.m. when a driver struck her on Wednesday, Oct. 18th, according to the Orange County Register. She is a student at Fitz Intermediate Language Academy in Santa Ana, according to police.
Paramedics responded and rushed her to a hospital where she is fighting for her life, the report said. Authorities say she is undergoing surgery at the hospital.
Meanwhile, police are searching for the suspect who fled the scene and failed to stop and help the injured girl.
Also, police are reviewing footage of the crash captured on a Ring doorbell and have a photo of the suspect’s vehicle. It’s described as a lowered, blue, newer-model Honda with black-tinted windows, black rims and a black bumper, police said.
Police later arrested the suspect in the crash identified as 18 year old Madeline Ortiz.
Investigators continue to work on the case.
