SANTA ANA, California (May 5, 2017) — Oscar Bonilla, 30, of
Tustin, was struck by a white minivan Friday afternoon on the northbound 55 Costa Mesa Freeway near the McFadden exit, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.
The collision took place about 1:25 a.m. this morning. Paramedics responded and found the man down in the slow lane. The report stated he was struck by at least one motorist and he was in critical condition. The injured man was transported by ambulance to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana for treatment, but he died of his injuries just days before his 31st birthday.
There were witnesses who told police they saw him walking against traffic in the slow lane of the freeway prior to the collision. The accident is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
